Welcome to Child & Family Services of Saginaw

Denim Day

The Sexual Assault Center of Child and Family Service is soliciting individuals, local companies and organizations to help recognize April as Sexual Assault Awareness Month. Specifically SAC is asking people to break the dress code and silence on Denim Day Friday April 25, 2008. As part of this effort participants are able to wear denim to work by contributing $5.00 which supports your local Sexual Assault Center!

The Denim Day campaign began in 1999 as a protest against the Italian Supreme Court's ruling about a rape case.

Rome-Italy 1997
An 18 year old girl was raped and abandoned by her 45 year old perpetrator. She had to struggle to find her way back home. Undeterred, she prosecuted him and won. The perpetrator was convicted of rape and sentenced to jail.

Months later, 1998
The perpetrator appeals the sentence. The case makes it all the way to the Italian Supreme Court. Within a matter of days the case against her perpetrator was overturned, dismissed, and then he was released.

Denim Day is just an outward example of how our community can help change peoples perceptions about violence against women, men and children. Please join fight and break the dress code and silence of sexual assault.
